The Jets are considered by many to be one of the sexy picks to head to the big game this year. And who could blame them? They have an up and coming young quarterback in Mark Sanchez who surprised a lot of people last year in leading his team to the AFC Championship Game. They have a promising running game consisting of the up and comer in Shonn Greene and the old vet in LaDainian Tomlinson who is looking to prove he's got something left in the tank. They have improved their already solid receiving core of Braylon Edwards and Jerricho Cotchery with the additions of Santonio Holmes and the return of Laveraneus Coles. They have one of the best defenses in the league, if not the best, made up of quality players in Shaun Ellis, Kris Jenkins, and Jason Taylor. So they're a shoe-in for the Super Bowl right?

In order to be a Super Bowl team, you need all of your guys to buy into a system, cooperate with one another, and possess the necessary communication skills in order to succeed. There's one problem regarding the Jets, and that is one Sir Darrelle Revis.

Revis wishes to be treated like football royalty. He wants the max contract ever given to any player apparently and the Jets aren't willing to dole out that kind of money. This guy cracks me up. Not only is he threatening to sit out an entire season, but he is willing to lose potential money he could be making if he had settled on his contract this season. What a joke.

Sanchez still needs to mature a bit. He is still quite raw as evidenced by his whopping 20 interceptions last year. That is one of the main reasons why I believe the Jets making the Super Bowl this year is a bit premature. The Jets will finish second in the AFC East behind the Patriots with a record of 10-6, good enough for a wild card berth. [...]

The playoffs are a reality for the 2009 New York Jets. Yes, the PLAYOFFS! Forget the retiring and un-retiring of Brett Favre, forget the rookie quarterback and head coach, and yes, doubly forget about Mr Diva himself Tom Brady being 100% healthy. No matter what kind of odds Vegas stacked against them they are in.

Riddle me this bloggers, currently the Jets at 10-7 are moving on to face the equally hot San Diego Chargers in the 2009 Divisional round of the playoffs, while their AFC east rivals (the Patriots) were just knocked out after a thrashing on their home field by the 6th seed wild card Ravens.

This leads to the question are the Jets better off without Brett Favre? Defensive changes, Rex Ryan upgrade, Braylon Edwards, and other things aside, What do you think?

… A few numbers for you
2008 Jets
3516 – total passing yards
2004 – total rushing yards
5520 – Total Yards

2009 Jets
2596 – total passing yards
2756 – total rushing yards
5352 – Total Yards

As part of the new ball-security program installed to help out Mark Sanchez, Rex Ryan invited Joe Girardi to the Jets’ practice at Florham Park to show the rookie quarterback how to slide.

The Jets are pretty adept at sliding. They’ve been doing it since Week 4.

OK that was a gratuitous cheap shot. But having Girardi come over to practice was a pretty good idea because Sanchez needs as much help as he can get down the stretch.

Girardi, who deftly guided the Yankees to a World Series championship this season, also took some time out to address the Jets on being champions. Cornerback Darrelle Revis said he took away something from the pep talk.

“Unity,” he said.

Good. The Jets won’t fall apart as they go hand-in-hand to … nowhere this season.

Girardi’s pep talk and his teaching Sanchez to hook slide are a little too late to help the Jets this season. They aren’t going to the playoffs because they don’t have what it takes to run the table, which is what they have to do to have a chance. Hopefully Sanchez will retain the fundamentals of sliding and won’t get decapitated this year and will be a much better quarterback for it next season.

Click here to read the full article – By Tim Smith of New York Daily News

They were eager to prove that what occurred six days earlier was an aberration, that it was just a slight hiccup. The Jets weren't feeling like big shots coming off that Monday Night Meltdown, but they were confident that they were going to get things turned around Sunday against the Bills, a team that was reeling and had dropped its previous eight contests against AFC East opponents. This was supposed to be their get-well game, with the Bills providing the perfect fodder to pound into submission and cure their ills.

Never happened, though, and now the Jets are the team that's reeling after a 16-13 overtime loss. The Jets have dropped three straight since their season-opening three-game winning streak.

In a game in which the Jets had several chances to put Buffalo away, they made too many miscues and not enough plays, failing to step on the Bills' throats despite the countless opportunities.

Ryan Lindell banged a 47-yard field goal through with 2:44 left in overtime - making amends for a 46-yard miss at the end of regulation - to put the finishing touches on a stinging loss that left the Jets searching for answers.

"It's unfortunate," linebacker Bart Scott said. "We knew that team was going to come out and play hard. We knew they were a competitive group. We let one get away, but we have to go back and reanalyze ourselves. We'll find out a lot about ourselves. There will be a lot of things said, and deservedly so. We deserve every negative thing that's being said about us."

There's going to be a lot of negative things said about the Jets' golden rookie quarterback, who had a stinker of a game. Mark Sanchez was a turnover machine, whipping ill-advised passes around and never getting into any sustained rhythm. He threw five interceptions and finished with a quarterback rating of 8.3, completing 10 of 29 attempts for 119 [...]
